Welcome to the 'BRUSH ROAD' M.P.D. website which is about my '00' gauge 'Class 47' based model railway 'diorama' which I am in the process of building.
The layout when 'finished' will be for taking to exhibitions to show my fleet of over 100 Class 47's and also my 'sound' Class 47's too.
The layout dimensions are 4" x 2" purely for ease of taking about.
The layout is of a 'Fictious' diesel motive power depot and it is named after my favourite diesel locomotives: The 'BRUSH TYPE 4' or 'Class 47' and also my favourite depot 'Bristol Bath Rd' which is sadly no more.
'Bristol Bath Road' depot in the many years of it's life took good care of the 'BR' allocated BRUSH and won it's 'Quality Approved' status just before it closed on 28th September 1995,
I started the Brush Road' project in November 2008, after I had decided to build a layout to show people the Gaugemaster 'Black box' (dcc70) which operates my 'sound' class 47's without having to go totally dcc.
I began with numerous drawings and eventually I came up with the desired track plan for the depot.
I for one am not at all interested in running trains at high speed and combined with my fondness for Class 47's I wanted a depot layout where I can move my locomotives about along with an occasional fuel tank train. My ultimate aim was to build a layout with point motors worked by a lever frame! and which I have achieved! enjoy..... |

EARLY DAYS:
----------------
My interest, some say 'obssesion' in Brush type 4's or Class 47's began around 1982, when as a 7 year old I was given my first Ian Allan 'Locoshed' book complete with a 'BR Blue' 47090 'Vulcan' on the cover! The rest they say is history.............
From the early 'eighties' I would reguarly watch, photograph and travel behind these fine loco's while they carried out their duties in Dorset, and also when I would travel by 'Class 47' hauled train's to visit my grandparents in deepest darkest Cornwall!!
B.R.
-----
After leaving school, I joined the BR railway training scheme (RTS) and part of the training was spending two month's learning and riding aboard Class 47's with the Bournemouth 'Intercity' Drivers link. This experience helped me gain much knowledge about the class thanks to the many helpful drivers named opposite, and this in turn has helped me within 'Class 47' preservation.
Being a signaller I am very proud that I had a good 11 year's involvement with Class 47's on a daily basis before their unfortunate demise from 'regular' mainline work in 2002.
PRESERVATION:
--------------------
In the early 90's I was a member of the 'North Star' preservation group with the aim of preserving former Western region 'Namer' D1661 'North Star' as 'she' was a particular favourite of mine and still is!!
Sadly the group folded but D1661 lives on at the West Somerset Railway and is being looked after by the 'D&EPG' of which I am a member.
After the demise of 'BRUSH' from the mainline in 2002,
I got involved with five 'Class 47' preservation groups helping to preserve '8' Class 47's.
* 'D.E.P.G.' (D1661)
* '47401 Project' (47401/417)
* 'Sf 47 Group' (47367/580/596)
* '47635 Group' (47635)
* '47771 Group'. (47771)
